Search for and Select a Practitioner

You can search for practitioners by name and profession, or by entering a unique ID (Ahpra Number, Non-Aphra Number or Prescriber Number).

Search by name and profession

  1. From the Search menu, select Practitioners.

    The Practitioner Search screen is displayed. The Name search fields are expanded, by default.

  2. Enter at least one character of the practitioner's First Name and/or Surname.

    Wildcard searches are supported—see Wildcard Searching for details.

  3. Select the practitioner's Profession (optional).
  4. Select Search.

    Matching practitioners are shown in the Practitioner Search Results. If required, you can filter and sort using the column headers.

    The Restrictions label is shown if the practitioner has one or more of the following:

    • A current NSW restriction

    • A current Ahpra Condition, Notation, Reprimand, Restriction, or Undertaking

    The Source column indicates where SafeScript has obtained information about this practitioner:
    • Ahpra: The information comes from the practitioner's Ahpra registration (whether or not they are registered for SafeScript). You will be able to view additional information about this practitioner.
    • Non-Ahpra: The information is created and managed by Department of Health. You will be able to view additional information about this practitioner.
    • Transactions: The information comes from prescriptions sent via eRx or MediSecure. Only the basic practitioner details contained in a prescription are available.
  5. Click a practitioner to view their SafeScript profile. For details, see View or Edit a Practitioner.

Search by unique ID

  1. From the Search menu, select Practitioners.

    The Practitioner Search screen is displayed.

  2. Select the Unique ID drop-down.

  3. Enter the one of the following practitioner ID's:

    • Ahpra Number

    • Prescriber number

    • Non-Ahpra Number

    Partial ID numbers cannot be used to search for a practitioner.

  4. Select Search.

    Matching practitioners are shown in the Practitioner Search Results. If required, you can filter and sort using the column headers.

    The Source column indicates where SafeScript has obtained information about this practitioner:
    • Ahpra: The information comes from the practitioner's Ahpra registration (whether or not they are registered for SafeScript). You will be able to view additional information about this practitioner.
    • Non-Ahpra: The information is created and managed by Department of Health. You will be able to view additional information about this practitioner.
    • Transactions: The information comes from prescriptions sent via eRx or MediSecure. Only the basic practitioner details contained in a prescription are available.
  5. Click a practitioner to view their SafeScript profile. For details, see View or Edit a Practitioner.

Wildcard Searching

To help you find a practitioner's record, particularly when you are unsure of the spelling of their name, you can use wildcards. Refer to the table below for examples.
